Working with the tide to install a watertight swale lining
Timing it right to deliver a coastal containment solution
Fend was contracted by CF Civils to install a geomembrane lining to an attenuation swale at a new college development in Skegness. With the swale dug to the water table and located on the coast, the project presented a unique challenge, the tide itself would dictate our working window.
Tide sensitive planning, precision led delivery
The coastal location meant that groundwater levels within the swale were directly affected by tidal movement. During low tide, we had limited opportunity to perform plastic welding on the 1mm HDPE membrane. Our team carefully planned the installation around these tidal windows, executing the works methodically, phase by phase, to ensure a clean, secure seal despite the conditions.
Built to contain, even in dynamic environments
Despite the complexities, our experienced installers completed the work to the highest standard. Every weld was made using heat and pressure techniques during carefully timed shifts. The result: a durable, watertight swale system ready to support long term water management for the site.
